Diaper Cream

This is a gentle yet effective diaper cream. Unfortunately, many diaper creams contain parabens (including, the ubiquitous pediatricians' favorite, Desitin®), which are known carcinogens. This all-natural diaper cream is easy to make. Melrose™ provides a great skin barrier, lavender helps calm the skin and Gentle Baby™ soothes it.

Ingredients

5 drops lavender essential oil
5 drops Gentle Baby™ essential oil
5 drops Melrose™ essential oil
3 Tbsp beeswax pellets
3 Tbsp raw shea butter
3 Tbsp cold-pressed organic coconut oil

Therapeutic-grade lavender is often used to soothe and cleanse the skin. Gentle Baby™ is a wonderful blend of geranium, rosewood, coriander seed, lavender, Ylang Ylang, Roman chamomile, lemon peel, jasmine, and rose flower oils; all incredible oils for skincare. Gentle Baby™ also helps calm emotions during pregnancy and is useful for quieting troubled little ones.

Preparation

Using a double boiler (if you don’t have one, you can simply set a glass pyrex dish over a sauce pan filled with water), melt the Shea butter, beeswax, and coconut oil over medium heat. Do not boil. Shea butter can be grainy to the touch if it is not heated prior to applying. Once liquefied, remove from the heat and let cool. Add in the essential oils, and put the cream in the refrigerator to bring it back to a solid state. Before mixing, let it sit out at room temperature to slightly soften, making it easier to work with. Using an electric mixer, whip until fluffy. Using a wooden spatula, transfer to a glass jar.

Application

Rub some in between your palms first to soften and warm, and apply gently to baby as often as needed. After you rub your hands together, make sure to let baby smell your hands as this recipe is chock full of calming oils.
